In My Next Life I Want To Come Back As A Tarpon!
Tarpon Feeding Frenzie
My friends the tarpons start out at Rackams they wait all day to receive several snacks from island guests. They know if they hang out long enough they will get fed! They are very smart fish they wait and watch with those big bug eyes. They are often mistaken as sharks their size is quite intimidating.
At Rackams you can snorkel off their ladder during the day to enjoy the wreck of the Cali, or swim with the tarpons, stay for an incredible sunset, then watch or participate in the feeding of the tarpon, every night at 7:30. Rackam’s is literally built right on the iron shore, jutting into the sea, so you can’t get any closer to being on the water, and can’t beat the views.
It’s the place where you sit at the bar with a dive master on one side and an accountant on the other, all enjoying the same thing... world famous fish and chips, ice cold beers, signature cocktails.
And yes make friends with the silver tarpons.
But don't stop here keep going down Seven Mile Beach and find the next Tarpon Hang and Honey Hole "The Lobster Pot".
Right under this fabulous new deck they wait patiently for 7:30 PM to arrive. They know Jen's the new manager will slowly walk down the stairs to start their own private happy hour! The upper deck filled with spectators watching as the fish pop out of the water and swish their tails in delight! But they don't stop there they move down to their next favorite Honey Hole "The Wharf"
The kids love the tarpon feedings and spend most of their time watching the fish swim up! The restaurant rings the bell during the fish feedings times which is 7:30 and 9:30 for their mid night snack. This has been there favorite for over 25 years! Talk about spoiled! The Wharf entertains you with the nightly Feeding of the resident Tarpons. These 50 lbs plus fish anxiously wait, swimming by your tables from around 6 pm until their feeding at 7:30PM and 9:30PM. Watch as they put on a show that will captivate the inner child in you.
Tarpon also love the night divers and cave dwellers under the sea. They quickly train the divers to shine their flash lights to find some good eating. In fact if you do not cooperate they give you a little friendly pop on the wrist! It happened to me. The also love to hang at Devil's Grotto at Eden Rock
Their favorite snack the Silversides show up late Summer and they are a site to behold. These are tiny little fish that like to hang in the caves under the sea and can be found under the large rocks.
