Cayman's Bio Bay The Bomb!

What Is a Bioluminescent Bay? (Also called a Bio Bay)

Bioluminescent bays are made of dinoflagellates that live in the bay. When the water is moved in any way, the dinoflagellates glow. You can run your hand through the water or see fish swimming by the blue glow that is created. It is amazing!

Experience the magic of Bioluminescence

One of the most magical things you can experience is seeing the glow of
Bioluminescence.
Bioluminescence is the creation of light through a biological process.
In the ocean there are literally thousands of animals that have the ability to
glow in the dark for a variety of reasons.
There are 3 varieties of bioluminescent creatures that live near shore
in Caribbean waters, and are commonly seen. With right conditions
the concentrations of these organisms is off the charts.
 Producing a one-of-a-kind visual experience

There is a small protected bay that is one of the best Bioluminescence Bays
in the world. Millions of glowingmicro-organisms put on an amazing
light show in the dark water.Watch your hands,
feet and paddle glow magically and naturally.

Discover Mating Glow Worms There are many organisms in the marine world
that are bioluminescent. In Cayman, like Bermuda, the polychaete annelid
Odontosyllis sp. bioluminesces during mating activities that take place every month
following the full moon. The females rapidly swim to the surface and emit a bright
green fluorescent chemical that attracts the males who soon follow.
